Volstagg is one of the most well-known warriors of Asgard and a longtime companion of Thor as a member of the Warriors Three, alongside Fandral and Hogun. Though often perceived as gluttonous, boastful, and more concerned with comfort than battle, Volstagg has repeatedly demonstrated great courage and loyalty in times of crisis.
In his youth, Volstagg was a formidable and physically imposing warrior, renowned for both his strength and his appetite for adventure. Over time, he grew into a larger and more indulgent figure, gaining significant weight but losing none of his bravery or fighting ability. Despite his jovial nature and tendency toward exaggerated storytelling, he has proven himself a capable combatant when the need arises.

Volstagg has participated in countless battles in defense of Asgard, often fighting alongside Thor against threats such as Loki, the Frost Giants, and Surtur. He has also traveled to Earth on numerous occasions, where his larger-than-life personality and cultural differences have often led to humorous situations.
Despite his reputation as comic relief among the Asgardians, Volstagg possesses a strong sense of honor and deep devotion to his friends and family. His love for his wife and children is a central aspect of his character, and he frequently speaks of them with pride.
During periods of great crisis, Volstagg has risen to unexpected heights of heroism. In one notable instance, he became the wielder of the mystical hammer War Thor, gaining immense power fueled by rage and grief. In this form, he played a critical role in the conflicts involving Malekith and the War of the Realms, demonstrating a far more serious and tragic side of his character.

During the period in which he wielded the hammer known as War Thor, Volstagg was temporarily granted vastly augmented strength and the ability to generate and manipulate mystical energies. In this state, he could channel immense destructive force and withstand attacks from extremely powerful enemies. This condition, however, was temporary and dependent upon his possession of the weapon.
