Over 10,000 years ago a savage came to possess a portion of the Bloodgem, a mystical crystal which gave him immortality and eternal youth. The savage was a superhuman mutant possessing various psionic powers. This being eventually came to Camelot and used his powers to impersonate Merlin during one of the real wizard's absences. The Eternal named Sersi helped to expose this false Merlin, and the real wizard cast the mutant imposter into suspended animation. The false Merlin revived in recent times and battled the Asgardian god Thor. Later, the false Merlin battled the X-Men under the name Warlock, and fought the Beast, Iceman, and the Hulk under the name of the Maha Yogi. During his encounter with the Hulk, the Maha Yogi's Bloodgem fragment was destroyed, and he rapidly aged into seeming helplessness. The Maha Yogi's current whereabouts and activities, if he still lives, are as yet unknown.
Strength Level: Merlin possesses the normal human strength f a man of his age, height, and weight, who engages in little regular exercise.
Known Superhuman Power: The Maha Yogi was a superhuman mutant with many psionic powers. He could control the minds of others, create illusions, project powerful psionic force bolts that had concussive effects on physical objects, levitate objects, teleport himself, create force fields, and alter his own appearance to some degree. (Apparently he could not make himself look non-humanoid in form) The mystical Bloodgem formerly granted him immortality and eternal youth.
