In light of Russia's struggles to build a democratic political system and market economy to replace the strict social, political and economic controls of the communist period, Piotr Rasputin left his poverty-stricken family to make a living in the United States. Already aware of his incredible powers and unable to find adequate work to support his family, Piotr joined the Russian Mafia. Downplaying his abilities, he quickly rose within the Mafia ranks to enforcer. Caring more about his family than himself, Piotr sent home every cent he earned.

Due to his trusted position, Piotr often was charged with the oversight of secret arms deals. One such transaction threw his life into a tailspin when he and his associates were doublecrossed and attacked. All the men were killed save Piotr, who used his mutant power to become an impenetrable being of organic steel. His secret now exposed, Piotr was inclined to wait for the Sentinels to arrive and annihilate him. Instead, he was discovered by Professor Charles Xavier and asked to join the X-Men, a team of young mutants dedicated to bringing about peaceful coexistence between the two species of man. As Colossus, Piotr now serves as the squad's super-strong powerhouse.

Powers: Piotr Rasputin is a mutant with the ability to convert his body into an organic steel-like substance, granting him superhuman strength and a high degree of resistance to injury. It is believed that because Piotr is still a teenager, his strength has not yet reached its peak.
