Chance is a thirteen-year-old girl whose parents were members of Reverend Yune Kim Park’s Glorification Church. Park brought Chance and her family to the United States from their homeland under the false promise of securing American citizenship. Instead, he subjected them to conditions akin to servitude. Chance herself was forced to work on street corners selling calendars to raise money for the church. Eventually, unable to endure the abuse any longer, she ran away.
After leaving the church, Chance was recruited by the mutant criminal known as the Vanisher to join a group of teenage thieves under his control, collectively called the Fallen Angels. The group consisted of several young male and female mutants.
Within the Fallen Angels, Chance became close friends and partners with another thief, Ariel, who was later revealed to be an extraterrestrial from the planet Coconut Grove. In exchange for money, Chance agreed to assist Ariel in a mission to transport several mutants to her home world, where they were to be subjected to experiments intended to extract the factor that caused their mutations.
Once Ariel transported the Fallen Angels to her planet, both she and Chance were also taken prisoner, having been identified as mutants themselves with unusual abilities. Chance’s own mutant power began to manifest at this time, coinciding with the onset of puberty. The Fallen Angels ultimately managed to escape captivity and return to Earth, where Chance remains an active member of the group.
