Tryco Slatterus, known as the Champion of the Universe, is one of the Elders of the Universe—ancient beings who have survived since the earliest epochs of existence and devoted themselves to singular obsessions. The Champion embodies the pursuit of physical perfection and combat mastery, traveling across the cosmos to test himself against the greatest warriors of every world.
Expand full history
The Champion is among the oldest known sentient beings in existence, a survivor of the earliest civilizations to arise following the birth of the universe. Like the other Elders of the Universe, he achieved a form of functional immortality through absolute dedication to a singular purpose. Where others pursued knowledge, collection, or games of chance, Tryco Slatterus chose physical perfection as his defining obsession.
Over untold millennia, the Champion refined his body beyond the limits of conventional biology, channeling the Power Primordial—the residual energy of the Big Bang—into his physical form. Through relentless discipline, he transformed himself into one of the most powerful purely physical beings in existence. His musculature, reflexes, and endurance became vessels for cosmic energy, allowing him to operate on a scale far beyond mortal or even most superhuman limits.
Driven by a desire to test his supremacy, the Champion began a journey across the universe, traveling from world to world in search of worthy opponents. Unlike conquerors or tyrants, he sought not domination but validation. On each planet he visited, he would challenge that world’s greatest champion, often agreeing to fight under the local rules or styles of combat. In tens of thousands of recorded battles across countless civilizations, the Champion has virtually never been defeated.
His travels eventually brought him to Earth, where he encountered a number of its most powerful heroes. Among those he faced were members of the Fantastic Four and other superhuman champions. These encounters demonstrated that while Earth possessed extraordinary defenders, few could rival the Champion in direct physical confrontation. However, Earth’s heroes often relied on ingenuity, teamwork, or exploiting his rigid adherence to rules to survive their encounters with him.
At one point, the Champion joined forces with the other Elders of the Universe in a rare moment of collective purpose. Together, they attempted to destroy Galactus, the devourer of worlds, whom they viewed as a threat to their continued existence. Despite their immense power and combined efforts, the Elders ultimately failed in this endeavor, reinforcing Galactus’s position as one of the few beings the Champion could not simply defeat through physical might alone.
Throughout his long existence, the Champion has remained largely detached from moral or ideological concerns. He is neither inherently benevolent nor malicious; rather, he operates according to his own code centered on competition, strength, and personal excellence. He respects worthy opponents and often spares those who demonstrate courage or ingenuity, though he has little patience for deception or weakness.
In more recent encounters, the Champion has continued to test himself against Earth’s heroes, including beings such as the Hulk and She-Hulk, whose strength places them among the few capable of engaging him on somewhat equal footing. These battles have further solidified his reputation as one of the most formidable purely physical combatants in the Marvel Universe.
Despite the passage of eons, the Champion shows no sign of slowing his quest. As long as there are warriors to challenge and limits to surpass, Tryco Slatterus will continue his endless journey—seeking the one opponent who might finally prove him less than invincible.
Strength Level: The Champion possesses incalculable superhuman strength. He can lift well in excess of 100 tons, with no known upper limit, as his strength is fueled by cosmic energy rather than biological processes.
Known Superhuman Powers: The Champion channels the Power Primordial, granting him immense strength, durability, stamina, and reflexes. He does not fatigue and can survive extreme environments without harm. His body is resistant to virtually all forms of injury short of molecular-level destruction.
Other Abilities: Master of countless forms of hand-to-hand combat drawn from civilizations across the universe; unparalleled tactical combatant in physical engagements.

Unlike many cosmic beings, the Champion does not typically project energy externally. Instead, he internalizes all cosmic power to enhance his physical capabilities. This makes him uniquely specialized: while lacking versatility in ranged energy manipulation, he is nearly unmatched in direct physical confrontation.
Limitations: The Champion’s primary limitation is his own self-imposed code. He often adheres strictly to agreed-upon rules of combat, which can be exploited by more strategic opponents. His focus on physical confrontation also limits his effectiveness against opponents who rely heavily on non-physical or reality-altering powers.
The Champion of the Universe doesn’t normally use weapons or paraphernalia.
