Historical Data

The Alpha Primitives are a genetically engineered subspecies created by the Inhumans approximately four thousand years ago to serve as a labor force. Designed to perform all forms of manual and industrial work, they enabled the Inhumans to devote themselves entirely to intellectual, scientific, and cultural pursuits. Though originally conceived as a utilitarian solution to societal needs, the Alpha Primitives became a permanent underclass within Inhuman civilization, raising significant ethical concerns that would persist for millennia.

Known History

The Alpha Primitives were created by the Inhuman geneticist Avadar, who proposed to the ruling Council of Genetics that a servant race would eliminate the need for physical labor among the Inhumans. Accepting this proposal, the Council authorized the creation of a biologically engineered workforce. Within a decade, hundreds of Alpha Primitives were bred and deployed throughout Attilan, where they assumed responsibility for sanitation, agriculture, construction, and manufacturing.

The Alphas were deliberately designed to be docile, uniform, and intellectually limited. All members of the subspecies were created as a single neuter sex, preventing natural reproduction and ensuring complete dependence on Inhuman-controlled cloning processes. Their lack of individuality and culture was an intentional feature, as they were engineered solely for function rather than self-determination.

For thousands of years, the Alpha Primitives served without question, forming the backbone of Attilan’s infrastructure. However, their existence also became a source of moral tension within Inhuman society. Many Inhumans recognized the inherent injustice of maintaining a sentient labor class deprived of autonomy, while others continued to view the Alphas as little more than biological tools.

The Alpha Primitives were occasionally subjected to unethical experimentation, most notably by Maximus, the unstable brother of Black Bolt. In one such experiment, Maximus exposed several Alpha Primitives to concentrated Terrigen Mist, transforming them into an energy-based entity known as the Trikon. The Trikon briefly served Maximus during his attempt to overthrow the Inhuman royal family before being defeated.

In a later experiment, Maximus exploited the collective guilt of the Inhumans toward the Alpha Primitives, channeling their psychic energy into a massive artificial being known as Omega, the so-called “ultimate Alpha.” This construct represented both the physical and symbolic manifestation of the Inhumans’ long-standing ethical failure. Omega was ultimately rendered inert when hostilities ceased and the Inhumans began to confront their treatment of the Alpha Primitives.

Following these events, the Inhumans formally emancipated the Alpha Primitives, granting them freedom and relocating them to the lower regions of Attilan. However, the transition proved difficult. Having been created without culture, ambition, or independent social structures, many Alpha Primitives continued to perform their previous duties out of habit rather than obligation.

The prohibition of cloning new Alpha Primitives marked a turning point in their history. Without the ability to reproduce, their population began to decline steadily, rendering them an endangered subspecies. In response, some Inhumans undertook efforts to educate and assist them, attempting to provide the tools necessary for self-sufficiency and cultural development.

Despite these efforts, the long-term future of the Alpha Primitives remains uncertain. Their existence stands as a lasting reminder of the consequences of unchecked scientific ambition and the ethical responsibilities inherent in the creation of sentient life. Within the broader history of the Inhumans, the Alpha Primitives represent both a foundational element of their civilization and one of its greatest moral failings.
